Speaker Bios > Irene Barath

Irene Barath is a full-time staff member at the Ontario Police College and has been employed in that capacity since September of 1998.  Irene was hired as a firearms instructor and now focuses her training on Senior and Special Courses. She is a member of the Leadership Training Unit and her current responsibilities involve the coordination and delivery of training in this area. In addition Irene facilitates training for recruits and senior officers on Stress Management, Critical Incident Stress and Career Management.

Prior to taking a full-time position at the Ontario Police College Irene was a serving police officer with the Peel Regional Police for 15 years.  Her service included assignments to both uniform and investigative responsibilities as well as a two-year secondment to the Ontario Police College where she facilitated training with recruits in both academic and physical skills areas.

Irene has had the opportunity to conduct research in cooperation with the University of Toronto in areas related to stress and decision making in police recruits and more recently stress and performance in the area of police communicators.
